Downtown Bellevue Shopping: 9 Hard-to-Find Stores Worth Visiting

Online shopping has disrupted the traditional experience of patronizing brick and mortar stores. The city of Bellevue is bucking this trend. Downtown Bellevue makes a particularly strong case with stores and products that can be difficult to find elsewhere, from Vessi’s only U.S. storefront and SUKOSHI’s only Washington location to Japanese home goods, Swiss and Japanese chocolate, Leica cameras and independently curated boutiques. STORES AT THE BELLEVUE COLLECTION’S BELLEVUE SQUARE
Walking into the Bellevue Square Mall, I heard a repetitive click-clacking sound. What was going on here? A group of teenagers were wrapping up a game of mahjong, replacing their tiles in travel bags. They’d found a perfect place to gather – a buzzy mall boasting over 23 million visitors a year.
LADERACH: HAND-BROKEN SWISS CHOCOLATE
Drawn to the mix of upscale shops, this is where Swiss chocolatier, Läderach opened a store in August 2025, enticing customers in with samples of their best-selling milk-chocolate-covered caramelized hazelnuts. Behind the counter, slabs of chocolate are stacked one on top of the other. Dark, milk and white chocolate sheets filled with nuts, berries, fruit, and seasonal specialties. “We’re patterned after a cheese shop, where the product comes in a big wheel, and you buy a wedge. Our slabs are hand-broken into pieces and sold by weight.” They call it FrischSchoggi (fresh chocolate) and use absolutely no preservatives.
VESSI: THE CANADIAN BRAND’S ONLY US STORE
Vessi, a Canadian brand, opened its first and only US store in Bellevue Square. Vessi makes totally waterproof shoes that look like fashionable sneakers or boots. Wearing their comfortable Uptown Chelsea ankle-boot in a Fall color called Spice/Dune, I stepped into a blue tub filled with water. My foot stayed completely dry, thanks to Vessi’s patented fabric. Do your kids love stomping in puddles? These shoes are machine washable and come out looking like new.
SUKOSHI: ASIAN BEAUTY WITH ONE WASHINGTON STORE
Sukoshi is another Canadian brand whose only Washington store is in Bellevue Square. Specializing in Asian beauty products from Korea, Japan, and China, they sell Korean sunscreen, which some consider superior to any American product. Brands including Medicube, Round Lab, Rom&nd, Judydoll have their own shelves, and Sukoshi’s sales staff will guide you to the best product for your skin type.
ROYCE’: HOKKAIDO CHOCOLATE IN BELLEVUE
A Japanese brand with a presence in Bellevue Square is Royce’ Chocolate Boutique. Their best-selling NAMA line includes a variety of butter-soft rectangles that melt in your mouth, thanks to fresh cream from a Hokkaido dairy farm. Look for their seasonal specialties, like cherry blossom Sakura-flavor, or go in an entirely different direction and try Royce’ Potatochip Chocolate – bet you can’t eat just one!
MUTO: JAPANESE GOODS SELECTED FOR BELLEVUE
Practically next door to Royce’, Muto opened their “lifestyle and home goods” store in July 2026, selling Japanese products ranging from whimsical paper goods and stickers, to ceramics, hand cloths and a popular scrubbing brush – Kamenoko Tawashi – found in every Japanese kitchen. A trip to Muto is a lot cheaper than flying to Japan, and well worth a visit for unique gifts.
RODD & GUNN: NEW ZEALAND MENSWEAR WITH ONE WASHINGTON STORE
When Rodd and Gunn opened in Bellevue Square, I thought it was an odd place to sell fishing rods and hunting guns. Founded in New Zealand back in the 1940s, Rodd and Gunn’s focus was, indeed, on hunting and fishing sports. They still feature a hunting dog on their logo, though the store, which is now Australian-owned, is now a premium menswear label whose only Washington outlet is in Bellevue. Using fine materials, strong seams and durable hardware, this brand guarantees its products for two years.

Smith and Main is a women’s clothing boutique on a side street off Main. Chanel Smith opened her store in 2018. Her curated collection of clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories features up-and-coming designers and some well-established names.

A few blocks away, Hedge and Vine is also woman-owned. A delicate scent greets you upon entering Marilyn Zonnefeld’s gift store.
